Work Vs Study

Can you juggle your studies with paid work?

There’s a careful balance between paid work and studying. Only you know how much time you’ve got everyday - some of you may feel you’ve got no choice but to work for money reasons.

Our advice is just to look for flexible jobs so that you can effectively work around your studies, rather than trying to study around your work.

Some employers will offer ‘term time contracts’ which means you only work during university term time and you aren’t expected to be stacking shelves during the summer holidays and Christmas. Many larger companies will allow you to work at a supermarket in your uni town during term time, and then a supermarket near your hometown during the holiday periods. This is ideal as you have a money-source all year but aren’t stuck in one place if you want to keep the job.

- There are a couple of other sections of the site you may want to check out at this point. The Student Loans & Funding section gives you information on whether you’re entitled to any sources of funding during your time at uni. This may take away some of the financial worries while you’re a student.

- The Make Money Online provides advice and information on (strangely enough!) making money online while you’re studying at uni by filling in surveys. This really does allow you to work around your studies as you are invited by email to fill in surveys for money, and therefore if you have the time you can fill them in - otherwise you can just ignore the email.
