Organic Food

Student Health main

What's it all about?
Organic foods are produced according to a set of standards. For animals this means there are reared without the routine use of antibiotics and growth hormones. For crops this means they are grown without the use of conventional pesticides, sewage sludge and artificial fertilizers. This means organic food is produced with fewer artificial methods, materials and conditions.

Organic Food

The benefits:
Organic farms generally have a smaller environmental impact than conventional farms because they release less synthetic pesticides into the environment (harming less wildlife) and often use less energy and produce less waste (for example waste packaging for chemicals).

There is often pesticide residue found in non-organic food which can be transferred into your body.

The message:
Try to switch conventional food for organic food where you can. It is easy to find organic fruit and veg in shops which isn’t made using artificial measures, which means it is more natural and effectively better for you and the environment.
