Student Debt

It’s so easy to get into debt when you’re at University. It’s likely to be your first time living away from home and your first attempt at paying bills. In the second year of your university studies it gets even more confusing as you have to now pay your electricity and gas bills as well.
Don’t let those bills run away and get forgotten because they will soon catch up with you. Trust me when I say it’s a lot easier keeping on top of things from the start, here are some helpful hints:

If you’re short of cash and need to pay that bill try asking your parents for that extra tenner. As long as it’s only now and again they probably won’t mind and will be happier knowing you’re not going deep into debt!

Don’t spend more than you can afford to as a student. It sounds simple but if you know you’ve got a bill coming up, keep that cash put aside rather than spending it and then worrying about how to pay the bills.

Try speaking to your bank about the possibility of increasing your Interest free overdraft by £100 on your student bank account. Explain the situation and as long as they can see you have been putting some money back into the student account as well as taking it out, they are likely to increase it. The worst they can do is say no!
