All costs are calculated using mysupermarket which finds you the best price for groceries online

What you need:

  • 200g pasta (55p/500g packet)
  • ½ onion (6p)
  • 1 clove of garlic (60p/packet of 2 garlic bulbs)
  • 1 tin of chopped tomatoes (50p)
  • Dried mixed herbs (50p/15g)
  • Olive oil
  •

    What to do:

    • Place the pasta in a saucepan of boiling water - it should take 10 - 15mins to cook.
    • While the pasta is cooking make the sauce by finely chopping the onion and garlic. Heat up a small amount of olive oil in a pan and then add the onion and garlic. Fry for a couple of minutes until the onion starts to brown and go soft.
    • Then add the tin of chopped tomatoes and heat - DON’T allow the sauce to boil. After 5 mins sprinkle in a pinch of mixed herbs and then continue to heat at a low temperature until the pasta is cooked.
    • Drain the water from the pasta and then add the sauce. Mix together and then it’s ready to eat.
    • You may want to sprinkle some grated cheese on once it is on your plate.

    Make it healthier:

    1) Use wholewheat pasta
