BREAST CANCER:

Over 42,000 new cases of breast cancer are identified each year in the UK. The good news is that breast cancer death rates have fallen by a fifth over the last 10 years thanks to earlier detection and better treatment. A woman’s breasts will change in shape at different times in her life and so it is essential you know what your breasts feel like at different times in the month so that you can quickly identify any irregularities. When checking your breasts, check for:

* Changes in the size, shape or feel
* Any lumps or thickening in one breast or your armpit
* Any dimpling or redness of the skin
* New pain or discomfort which is only on ONE side
* Any nipple discharge or changes in the position of the nipple

There are many reasons which could result in you noticing one of these changes and it isn’t necessarily breast cancer, but report anything unusual to your doctor straight away to get checked out.
